Engineering Shortage

Just filmed our first interview/fireside chat with the legend Mark Bowater!
We talked about the critical shortage of good engineers and spent most of the time on the why.
It really boils down to a few powerful public perceptions that are turning people away:
- It's environmentally destructive
- It's only a short-term career
- Mining will be made obsolete
- FIFO rosters suck
The conversation was so good that after listening back, I've split it into three parts:
- Quantity: The sheer lack of people. (Mark’s only seen an oversupply of engineers twice in his 35-year career).
- Quality: The experience gap we're facing.
- The Solution: A new way forward.
Anyway, after we wrapped up, one thing really stuck with me. Where are all the fully 100% rehabilitated mine sites?
I myself designed rehab dumps last week for a junior miner that hasn't even started operating. So I know the regulations are there, but I'm keen to see the finished product. Photos, a location to visit, even just a % stat for Aus?
So, I'm on a personal mission to find them. Do you know of any?
Just hit reply to this email – I'd love to quiz you on it.
Cheers guys,
Jez
